It is with great pleasure that I mark my tenth year as Headteacher of The Gateway Academy. Working with the young people of Thurrock each day is a true privilege.
At The Gateway Academy, we maintain the highest standards, grounded in our core values of Responsibility, Resilience, Compassion, and Aspiration. We expect both staff and students to bring passion and energy to everything they do, contributing to a diverse, truly fair, and equal community. Through exceptional teaching, outstanding pastoral support and a wealth of resources, we empower our students to unlock their utmost potential. Our commitment to overcoming any barriers to learning remains steadfast, ensuring that no student is left behind.
We have been praised by Ofsted for our outstanding curriculum, which is specifically designed to support all of our students in reaching their full potential in every aspect of their lives. From Computer Science and Design Technology to Performing Arts and Physical Education, students can develop according to their talents, interests, and ambitions.
The Grammar Band provision is for our higher-attaining students in each year group. We expect our Grammar Band students to reach the highest levels of academic success. Testament to this is the 300+ GCSE grades of 7-9 that our Grammar Band students have achieved in the last two academic years, as well as their continued success beyond our Academy doors. Our students make exceptional progress at The Gateway Academy and are driven to succeed.
It is remarkable how well our Academy continues to thrive, with student academic progress, student attendance, staff retention, and staff attendance all above the national average. Our teachers are dedicated professionals who are deeply passionate about their subjects, and teacher retention exceeds 85%. Our teacher training program is widely recognised as one of the best in Thurrock.
