It is with great pride that I mark my eleventh year as Headteacher of The Gateway Academy. Each day, working with the young people of Thurrock is both a privilege and a joy.
At The Gateway Academy, we hold ourselves to the highest standards, guided by our core values of Responsibility, Resilience, Compassion, and Aspiration. We expect both staff and students to bring passion and energy to all they do, helping to foster a community that is diverse, inclusive, and fair. Through exceptional teaching, outstanding pastoral care, and a wealth of resources, we empower our students to realise their full potential. Our commitment to removing barriers to learning remains unwavering—ensuring that no student is ever left behind.

admin@theglc.org.ukFollowing a further review of the weather forecast and site conditions, the decision has been made to close the Academy at 12:45pm on Thursday 25 June and Friday 26 June 2026 due to the continuing extreme weather conditions. Any student who wishes to remain on site after 12:45pm will be able to do so and will be supervised in an air-conditioned study room until the end of the normal school day. We have not taken this decision lightly. We appreciate that there may be mixed feelings regarding this decision and apologise for any inconvenience it may cause to families. Students have access to a wide range of online learning materials should they wish to continue their studies from home during the afternoons. In addition, students can make use of the extensive revision resources available to them, alongside our online reading platforms, which provide valuable opportunities to further develop their knowledge, literacy and independent study skills. As a reminder: • Students are not required to wear blazers or ties. • Students may wear their PE kit if they wish. • Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school each day so that they can stay hydrated. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Kind regards, Ms Mc Laughlin
