Gateway Sport
Welcome to Gateway Sport
The Gateway Academy PE faculty strives to provide a balanced and varied curriculum alongside a wide variety of extracurricular activities. All students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of sports, taking place in their traditional seasons. Alongside the core PE programmes of study, students will have the opportunity to study GCSE PE, and OCR Sports Studies. These are courses which provide a foundation to go on and study PE in many differing further education settings. The faculty consists of 7 staff, 6 experienced PE teachers and 1 full-time basketball coach.
At KS3 all students will participate in Physical Education lessons, which will consist of 4 lessons every two weeks. These will cover a variety of differing sports, all of which follow the national curriculum. Students will explore a multitude of skills across a variety of differing circumstances. In KS4 students have the option to select one of the two sports courses on offer, GCSE PE and OCR Sports Studies. They will receive 6 lessons over two weeks within these courses, alongside 2 hours of core PE.
At Gateway Academy, we understand the value of sport and the opportunities it can provide for our students. Students will have the chance to follow an extra-curricular programme that provides a huge amount of opportunity to develop their skills and explore their passion for sport.
In order to support our very best sporting students, 2023 has seen the introduction of our EAP programme (Elite Athlete Programme). This programme is designed to break down barriers and open doors, alongside providing specialist coaching in the given sports for each student.
